August the 6th was a big day for MorningStar Fishermen. Around 12 noon a car with three Allegany Franciscan Sisters pulled up to the grounds. After a tour of MorningStar Fishermen we sat down to lunch and everyone was talking about the simple technology and how it could help in many different countries including the South American countries of; Brazil, Jamaica and Bolivia were the sisters serve. As we talked we saw a lady walking towards us and I knew that the students from St. Leo’s University had arrived! Anna their director came and spoke with our group for a little while. Then, we saw some 35 freshmen coming up the walkway from the lower fish tank breeding area with MorningStar Fishermen’s full time volunteer, Berry. We all walked outside to greet them and introduced each of the South American Sisters, Sister Anglia from Jamaica, Sister Sheila who is half-Brazilian and American and Sister Miriam from Bolivia.

Hans and I spoke to the students about the need to end world hunger. We told them of how so many people from all over the world were working to do so also. There is one group that is making and selling hand made egg rolls [thousands of them], which, will enable them to set-up fish and vegetable units in orphanages in their home country. This is an example of love and a true work of what can be accomplished when the spirit is willing.
The day came to a close for us and we said our good-byes to the Sisters and the Students from St. Leo’s University. The students went to work immediately; some gathering fallen wood from all the recent storms and others working the compost bins, filling the bins with the leaves that had been gathered by other St. Leo students from last year. The leaves were well decomposed. While still other students worked with Hans doing various other tasks.
All in all it was a great day! We are grateful for all our visitors and the gift of their visits. We hope that one day a program will be set up with St. Leo University as an on going education program in ecology. |
